Tom Wilson was featured on a Zoom call with the Capitals on Thursday and a special guest made a cameo during the interview.
Former roommate Michael Latta, who is back home after spending the season in the SHL (Sweden), joined to “roast” Wilson on past ridiculous Instagram photos. The segment was less a roast, however, and more two old buds who love each other catching up.
The most interesting part of the call was the revelation that Tom Wilson used to eat ketchup sandwiches. Latta made the revelation after a screenshot was shown on the call of the two roommates’ most special moment together on HBO’s 24/7: their empty refrigerator save for the 3-for-1 ketchup deal they took advantage of at Costo.
“Willy likes his deals. He’s cheap,” Latta said. “Willy makes ketchup sandwiches a lot, so he needs a lot. Just ketchup (on two pieces of bread). That sicko.”

Here are the two friends talking about their ridiculous Instagram photos.

Tom Wilson: I think that was called the Honest Abe Award that was kind of a thing the team would hand out after the game to the guy that the team felt showed up…
[Michael Latta appears on the Zoom call.]
Tom Wilson: NOOO WAY! Oh my god! What a surprise! I was just talking to you!
Michael Latta: I know! He was talking to me yesterday and he was saying you have to jump in on this call.
Tom Wilson: This was actually the game where [we have] those pictures in the pool. Remember we were in the pool? That was a rookie party that weekend I think. Our rookie party. Don’t wanna dive too far into that to provide context. I’m glad I got player of the game after the rookie party. That’s pretty impressive. That might have something to do with it.
Photo: Tom Wilson and a bunny | 20:05
Tom Wilson: So that is Tricks, I think the name was the name of the bunny. Don’t ask me why. I think it did tricks off its toes or something and that was Cinder, the pup. That was my first dog that I grew up with. That was a throwback. I actually just sent that to my dad the other day. I didn’t even realize that was on my Instagram, but pretty hilarious.

Tom Wilson: That’s at my cottage in Quebec actually where my family grew up going, and spending a couple weeks there. I don’t know how old I am there but obviously a young guy getting after it. Probably a wipe out coming there.
Photo: Tom canoeing | 21:15
Tom Wilson: It seems like the photographer is doing me some justice with a good J stroke or whatever it’s called. That’s at the same family cottage. My little brother’s upfront there and my family pup Maggie, who’s still kicking at age 16 back home, which is awesome. That’s kind of a cool shot in the offseason, trying to stay in shape with a different method. Getting back to our roots there in the canoe.
Photo: Wilson and Latta in bed together | 22:05
Michael Latta: Oh man. That was our first training camp. We were living in the hotel together.
Tom Wilson: Yeah, the Residence Inn right around the corner.
Michael Latta: We had separate (rooms), but we stayed in the same one.
Tom Wilson: We had the option to stay separately but figured we’d bunk in.
Michael Latta: I was up and down with Hershey a ton that yeah, and Willy was up full time. That was our first year, so we got a lot of good bonding time together.
Photo: Locker room shaving cream pie | 23:10
Michael Latta: I think that was a preset pie in the face. We were doing a little interview thing.
Tom Wilson: We wanna do Tom interviewing Latts, or vice versa, and I think one of the boys got me with a shaving cream pie. Wardo or Chimmer?
Michael Latta: I think Wardo.
Photo: Wilson, Brower, Latta, Petey prom photo | 23:50
Tom Wilson: There were definitely a couple drinks if we were doing a prom pose, but Latts’ hair still looks pretty good at this point so it’s probably early on in the night.
Dolphin Photo | 24:50
Michael Latta: That was Bahamas.
Tom Wilson: Yeah, Atlantis? I still have another picture of Burkie, Latts, and I that we bought afterward. I still have that picture in Washington, just the three of us with the dolphin. That was an awesome time with the boys. It is in a nice Atlantis frame. I’m not going to say I went out and got it framed, but it is in a nice frame right now.
Photo: 3-for-1 Ketchup | 25:35
Michael Latta: That was during 24/7.
Tom Wilson: This is the most famous photo we have.
Michael Latta: We had probably just moved in together, maybe a couple months in, just young bachelors at the time. It was a great deal at Costco. 3 for 1.
Tom Wilson: Yeah, yeah! It was Costco.
Michael Latta: Willy likes his deals. He’s cheap.
Tom Wilson: I didn’t even know what Costco was. Latts was like, “I gotta take you to this great place, Costco.”
Michael Latta: Willy makes ketchup sandwiches a lot, so he needs a lot.
Michael Latta: Just ketchup (on two pieces of bread). That sicko.
Tom Wilson: I think we maybe used half of a bottle. Like that was just real optimistic of us.
Michael Latta: What else we got there? Some ranch?
Tom Wilson: Who was in charge, between you guys, of mostly stocking the fridge?
Michael Latta: We did everything together.
Tom Wilson: It was more like go to Whole Foods and get our dinner that night, whether it was a stir fry. I think that was Latts’ signature, a nice stirfry
Michael Latta: Or steak and sweet potatoes.
Photo: Grocery Shopping | 26:59
Tom Wilson: Look at those selfies. I didn’t realize I took a selfie every day and posted it back then. That’s Stevo there. Steve Oleksy. He was cooking for us that night.
Michael Latta: Look how full the cart is there, must’ve been a big meal.
Michael Latta: I miss [being roommates] every day.
Tom Wilson: Those were some of the best years of our lives, but uh…
Michael Latta: Taylor kicked me out
Tom Wilson: That was fun times for sure.
Photo: Tom at the Draft Combine | 28:00
Michael Latta: What a pic! Like 17 eh? At combine?
Tom Wilson: That is literally right before I went into the physical part of the combine. Obviously I’m scared, like so nervous. I’m just…ghost there. So they walk you in they take your mug shot and then you go right into the scary part where people are yelling at you.
Tom Wilson: 9 years, almost 10 (years ago). Young guns, man.
Michael Latta: Times are changing.
